Alla vostra biblioteca pubblica hanno queste cose messe in modo che vi possano far piangere, sghignazzare, amare, odiare, sognare, pensare e capire.

E’ stupefacente quello che questi ventisei segni possono fare.

Nelle mani di Shakespeare sono diventati l’Amleto. Mark Twain li ha intrecciati in Huckleberry Finn. James Joyce li ha contorti in Ulisse. Milton ha dato loro la forma del Paradiso Perduto. Einstein ha aggiunto qualche numero e qualche simbolo (per risparmiare tempo e spazio) e insieme hanno formato la Teoria della relatività generale.

In loro c’è il vostro nome.

E in questo momento li stiamo usando.

Perchè? Perchè è la settimana delle Biblioteche Pubbliche: un’eccellente occasione per farvi ricordare delle lettere, parole, frasi, paragrafi e capitoli. Insomma della lettura.

Naturalmente si può vivere anche senza leggere. Ma è troppo limitante.

Come altrimenti potreste andare nell’antica Roma? O sul Getsemani? O a Gettysburg? O incontrare persone come Aristotele, F. Scott Fitzgerald, San Paolo, Byron, Napoleone, Gengis Kan, Tolstoji, Thurber, Whitman, Emily Dickinson e Margareth Mead? Per non parlare di Gulliver, Scarlett O’Hara, Jane Eyre, Gatsby, Oliver Twist, Heathcliff, il Capitano Ahab?

Con i libri potete anche scalare la cima l’Everest, tuffarvi negli abissi dell’Atlantico. Mettere piede sulle Galapagos, navigare in solitaria intorno al mondo, visitare l’Amazzonia, l’Antartico, il Tibet, il Nilo.

Potete imparare a fare qualsiasi cosa, da cucinare una carota a riparare un televisore.

Con i libri potete esplorare il passato, immaginare il futuro, capire che senso ha il presente.

Leggete. La vostra biblioteca pubblica ha migliaia di libri, tutti a vostra disposizione, basta chiederli.

E mettete qualche libro in più nella vostra libreria. Ogni libro in più fa diventare la vostra casa più grande e più interessante.

Positive Thinking Ideas

Smile - Wherever and whenever you can. The one thing in life that we should be infinitely generous in is in giving out our smiles. In addition to putting yourself in a positive state, you will also positively affect the people around you as well.

Read positive, motivational books or quotes - This is a fast and convenient way to put yourself in a positive state of mind.

Call a friend - Give an old friend a call and make it a point to talk only about positive things.

Get out of your usual environment - Go to the park or anywhere that is nice and peaceful. By being in a new or not frequently visited environment, you will not be affected by any negative association that you may have with a certain place, i.e. your office.

Work on your goal setting or review the goals that you have set.

Listen to uplifting and positive music - Well selected classical music or movie soundtracks will usually do the trick.

Read motivational and positive stories - For example, books like Chicken Soup For The Soul. Or just do a search on the internet for motivational stories.

Exercise - working out can encourage a positive state of mind. It helps to release stress and puts you in a heightened state of awareness which induces positive thinking.

Creative expression - creative expression through activities such as writing/journaling, drawing, painting, playing musical instruments, dancing, photography and others can encourage positive thinking. Take up lessons or regularly set aside some time for these activities.

Sing and dance along to your favorite song.

Enjoy a nice cup of afternoon tea or evening wine while putting on some soothing music in the background.
